Perak MB gives thumbs up to MCA recruitment of non-Chinese

IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said recruitment of non-Chinese into MCA is the party decision and its a new way to move forward.
Commenting on the party's proposal to open its doors to non-Chinese as part of its transformation plan, he said: "We had brought non Malays from Siam, orang asli and bumiputra communities from Sabah into Umno. They are still Umno members."
On the vacant state assembly speakers's post, he said they will make a decision to fill the post before the State Assembly sits on Aug 9.
As to the candidate, Zambry said, a name will be proposed during the assembly for endorsement.
"I will also refer the name to BN chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak," he added.
Zambry was speaking to reporters after opening the DWJ Business Complex and DWJ Residences units at Meru here today.
On whether a MIC candidate will fill the post, he said: "We will leave it as is it for now."
The seat fell vacant after Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany won the MIC deputy president's post after he defeated Deputy Youth and Sports minister Datuk M. Saravanan in the party election.
During the election campaign, Devamany told members he will give up the speaker's post if he is elected to the number two post.
