74 illegal immigrants detained in Silam Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Police detained 74 illegal immigrants in an integrated operation in Kampung Sri Aman Muhibbah Silam near here yesterday.
Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said they comprised 42 male, including 11 children, and 31 female, 11 of them children.
He said the illegal immigrants were among 95 people who were rounded-up and taken to the Lahad Datu police station for documentation purpose, following checks at 150 houses in the village.
The 74 people detained are Filipinos who do not have valid documents, he said in a statement here today.
He said the illegal immigrants had been sent to the detention centre in Sandakan prior to their deportation.
The operation, led by Crime Prevention and Community Security head ASP Abdul Satal Mad Buraisal, also involved the Immigration Department, Batalion 17 of the General Operations Force, soldiers from the Lahad Datu camp and the Lahad Datu District Council. — Bernama
