GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan vice chairman Oh Tong Keong said he did not tarnish the reputation of party deputy secretary-general Dr Thor Teong Gee.
Oh said he had merely spoken the truth on what had transpired in a meeting between party president Datuk Mah Siew Keong and the Jelutong division last month.
He was commenting on Thor's decision to resign from all party posts as his reputation had been tarnished.
In press conference on Thursday, Thor said Oh had tarnished his reputation and that he was unfairly blamed for the general election candidature issues faced by the Jelutong division in the state.
In a press conference at the party's headquarters here, Oh said he was told that state chairman Teng Chang Yeow had proposed to Jelutong division leaders to nominate Thor as constituency coordinator in Jelutong, but the group refused to accept Teng's proposal.
Meanwhile, former Penang Gerakan secretary Goh Keng Seah urged the state and the party's central committee to persuade Thor to stay on in the party.
In a press conference at Chai Leng Park in Seberang Jaya here, Goh said Thor was a talented young party leader and he should not resign due to an internal dispute.
"I am sure some leaders in the party are happy because Thor had tendered his resignation for all party posts but I hope state party leaders will urge him to stay on," he said.
