Woman falls to her death on hiking trip

    KUALA KUBU BARU: A hiking trip for five friends at a popular waterfalls turned tragic when two of them fell off a cliff — killing a 24-year-old woman at Lata Medang, Kampung Pertak here today.
    Dayana Shafiqah Zainuddin, a teacher at an international school in Shah Alam, suffered serious head and internal injuries and was killed at the scene.
    Her friend, Aisyah Farina Zaidi, an accountant also aged 24, survived the 10m fall but suffered a broken shoulder in the 1.45pm incident.
    It is learnt that Aisyah had tried to hold on to Dayana when she slipped but lost grip of her before both women ended up falling.
    They were among four women and a man, all close friends from Shah Alam, who had earlier arrived the place at about 9.40am before hiking up to the waterfalls.
    Kuala Kubu Baru fire and rescue department operations commander Rosdi Shafie said firemen rushed to the scene on receiving a distress call at about 2pm.
    He said firemen scaled down a valley to reach the site of the accident and found Dayana had succumbed to her injuries.
    He said first aid was rendered on Aisyah at the site before she and Dayana's body were carried out on stretchers and sent to the Kuala Kubu Baru district hospital.
    Rosdi said the victims were swimming in the waterfalls at the time when they slipped and fell from a cliff.
    Police said investigations showed no foul play in the death of the victim.
