KUALA LUMPUR: Realising the interest and potential of youth in music, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has taken the initiative to prepare free jamming platforms in public parks here.
The programme called 'Jamming In the Park', which held its maiden performance on Saturday evening at Taman Tasik Permaisuri, Cheras, also provided free musical instruments such as guitars and drums for the youth to show their skills.
DBKL Department of Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sports director Ab. Salim Mansor said for a start, the programme will be held once a month at varying public parks including Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.
He said, if there's encouraging response from the youth, it will be held every week on Saturdays.
"Currently, the announcements on 'Jamming In The Park' is focused on the youth at the People's Housing Projects (PPR) that are supervised by DBKL, as a relaxation activity.
"Through programmes such as this, the youth are given the chance to play musical instruments and sing for an hour, without having to rent a studio as the fee is costly," he told reporters when met at the Merdeka Eve Mini Concert KL Street Jam, here, on Saturday night.
Ab. Salim said more details can be obtained on DBKL's official website at www.dbkl.gov.my or contact the programme producer, Albert Nathar at 012-6062122. — Bernama
