National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Biennial Delegates Conference results

PETALING JAYA: Utusan Melayu's Mohd Taufek Razak won uncontested as the president of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) at its Biennial Delegates Conference (BDC) on Sunday.
Mohd Taufek, who previously held the post of vice-president will head the NUJ executive committee for a two year term - 2016 to 2018.
In his speech, he said, the new executive council will work hard to strengthen the Union and uphold all its principles while taking care of members' welfare.
Mohd Taufek also assured that the executive committee will work closely with all its branches in various media organisations to that effect.
The BDC, held in the Shah Village Hotel here, also saw former president Chin Sung Chew from Sin Chew daily replacing Mohd Taufek as vice president uncontested.
Meanwhile, Schave Jerome De Rozario retains his post as general secretary while Mohd Hidhir Basarudin of Utusan Melayu replaced Wan Noor Hayati Wan Alias of the New Straits Times as deputy general secretary.
Baharudin Reseh Yaacob of Utusan Melayu also retained his post as general treasurer while Karen Kesawathany Arukesamy of theSun replaced Chan Kok Hong of Kwong Wah Yit Poh as deputy general treasurer.
The posts have been won uncontested.
In the BDC, delegates also approved motions relating to labour and union matters such as addressing Union Leave issues and also increasing the benefits of NUJ's welfare fund besides demanding the government to repeal the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA), and to enact the Freedom of Information Act.
