PUTRAJAYA: The National Audit Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have agreed to the proposal that government projects worth RM500 million and above should require the participation of both parties in order to combat corruption and bribery.
Chief secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa said while the proposal was already in place, it will be improved with the establishment of a task force to supervise the matter.
"All parties including the MACC and the National Audit Department have agreed with the Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang who expressed his cooperation especially in matters involving mega projects," he told reporters after attending an annual religious conference in Puspanitapuri, here, today.
In announcing the proposal last Thursday, Ali said through it, the Auditor-General and MACC's deputy director will be required to attend meetings as excos for various government projects including the ongoing Mass Rail Transit (MRT) project.
He had said the involvement of both agencies in high-cost government projects is pivotal as it is a proactive measure to prevent leakages and corruption in the public service.
According to him, 30 government servants have been found to be involved in corruption and bribery by the MACC since 2010.
In addition Ali had also congratulated the MACC following their successful operation, where they seized RM114.5 million from two senior officers from the Sabah Water Department who were alleged to have misused their powers involving a infrastructure project valued at RM3.3 billion.
