KLANG: Kampung Tok Muda residents in Kapar, Selangor are ready to face a huge high-tide phenomenon expected to hit the village by end of this week.
Abdul Kahar Soraji, 49, said he had started preparing for the expected high tide phenomenon since early last week.
"All our belongings and important documents have been transferred to higher areas. I have also placed barriers to avoid sea water from coming into my house," he told Bernama, here today.
On Friday, the State Disaster Management Committee reported that the high tide phenomenon would occur from Oct 16 to 19, with water levels expected to rise from 5.6m to 5.7m near coastal areas.
Another resident, Jariah Md Saleh, 64, was not happy with repair works carried out along the bunds.
She said no work was carried out when the tide was low until today.
"Only today we saw some lorries and heavy equipment starting work," she said adding that during the high tide incident last month, water level rose to about two feet, causing all electrical equipment to be damaged.
Meanwhile, Kampung Tok Muda Village Development and Security Committee chairman Masfangi Ahmad when asked about the plight of the residents said the committee had taken note of the issues at hand.
Masfangi said the authorities including agencies like the Fire and Rescue Department, Police and Local Council had identified about 50 families that need to be shifted out early.
"They will be shifted to the Kampung Tok Muda Multi-Purpose Hall by Friday," he said. — Bernama
