KEPALA BATAS: A woman has alleged that her 20-day-old baby girl has been abused with bruises and bite marks on her.
Police have detained a man (the baby's father), 34, at 7.50pm yesterday to help in the investigations into the case.
In the police report she lodged, the woman claimed that her baby was often bitten in several parts of the body especially the head, nose and cheeks, while she had also been flung into the air and suspended from the cot until she fell to the floor.
Seberang Prai North District Police Chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the family lived in Bumbung Lima here and the man who was detained in the compounds of the Kepala Batas Hospital was a jobless drug addict.
"The man was alleged to have bitten the head of the baby on Wednesday, leaving bite marks," he said here today.
He added that the woman lodged the police report yesterday after she became worried for her baby's safety as the man had threatened to sell it.
Noorzainy said following medical examinations on the baby, doctors have confirmed the bruised bite marks on the baby's head had faded as the incident occurred several days ago.
He said the man who tested positive for drugs was believed to have behaved such after the baby kept crying, adding that the man has been detained four days to help in the investigations. — Bernama
