BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry enforcement unit seized eight branded counterfeit motorcycle helmets in a operation today.

Central Seberang Perai unit chief Abdul Madi Wahab said the fake helmets were worth RM2,600 and seized at a motorcycle accessories shop in Jalan Rozhan here during the 2pm raid.

He said the helmets looked like originals but fakes did not guarantee the safety of users who purchase them.

"We have recorded the shop owner's statement," he said when contacted by the media.

The case is investigated under the Trade Description Act 2011 where those convicted are liable for a maximum RM15,000 fine for each fake item seized.
