Customer flashed on traumatic GrabHitch ride

KUALA LUMPUR: A routine ride to the mall using the Grab e-hailing service turned into a nightmare for a female passenger today as her driver allegedly flashed his genitals to her during the trip.
The customer, known only as @evonne127 on Twitter, told of her traumatic experience in a series of tweets, detailing how she got a “creepy vibe” with the driver’s slipshod dressing of just a singlet and running shorts.
She recalled how the driver had asked her personal questions and when they reached the highway, he exposed his private parts to her.
She said that the GrabHitch driver had kept catcalling and “whistling” at her while she pretended not to listen to him and looked at her phone.
When she got out of the car, she immediately called Grab, only to be told to send an email as the Grab personnel did not know how to handle the situation.
"Such action is not tolerated on our platform and we are terribly sorry for this horrible experience," said Grab in a statement.
“The safety of all our passengers is of great importance to us and we do not take anything that can potentially jeopardise their safety and their ride experience lightly.
“Specifically for GrabHitch passengers, they can also have the option of selecting same gender drivers,” Grab Malaysia Country Head Jaygan Fu said in a statement today.
Jaygan added that Grab has removed the offending driver from its platform.
“We would like to encourage our passengers to exercise their right to safe transport and reach out to us should they come across any similar situation so we can intervene and take the necessary
action,” Jaygan said, adding that the driver had just signed on to the GrabHitch platform for one week before the incident.
Grabhitch is a service where users can hitch a ride with private drivers who are going the same way, for a small fee.
