JASIN: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has called on the government to review the price control mechanism to ensure it does not burden the people, including civil servants.
Its president, Datuk Azih Muda said recently, civil servants, like the public also felt the brunt of the increase in prices and hoped the government would take the necessary action to ensure the hike in prices did not continue to be a burden.
"The impact of the increase in the price of fuel and cooking oil is greatly felt and has caused the price of other goods, including school uniform to rise more than 10 per cent.
"The hike in prices, which is also seen in food and even in drinks like 'teh tarik' has caused concern among the people," he told a press conference here today.
Azih said this after officiating the establishment of the Jasin branch of the Amalgamated National Union of Local Authorities Employees (Anulae) at Dewan Alamanda Jasin. Also present was municipal council president Shadan Othman.
Azih, who is also Anulae president said the increase in prices had also caused civil servants to spend more, resulting in them not being able to save up.
"Thus, this means workers with low income will have no savings. Can you imagine the tight expenditure of education, families, and even in purchasing houses when bearing other burdens?," he asked.
He advised the public to be prudent when spending and compare prices, as well as acquire accurate pricing information by knowing the price of goods before making any purchase.
Azih also called on the government to carry out recreational activities such as workout sessions, and talks on work and responsibility; a reminder not to be negligent in providing the best service to the public. — Bernama
