Floods force students to be ferried to school

IPOH: Several students sitting for the SPM examinations in Kuala Sepetang had to be ferried by a Fire and Rescue Department truck to their schools after floods hit the area today.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they used trucks to transport the students after several roads were flooded.
He said the high tide caused the water to overflow and flood the roads and housing estates about 6.30am.
However, no one was evacuated.
Meanwhile, the Larut Matang Selama natural disaster committee spokesman said electricity supply to some 200 people in Taman Kuala Sepetang was disrupted due to a sub-station being affected by flood waters.
Meanwhile in SHAH ALAM, about 311 residents from 83 families are still in relief centres due to the high tide phenomenon as of 10am today.
A spokesman for the state disaster operations room said the flood victims were placed in three relief centres in Klang and Sabak Bernam districts.
"Some 123 victims from 44 families are in Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tok Muda, Kapar, Klang and 117 victims from 24 families in Dewan Serbaguna, Jalan Palembang, Kampung Rantau Panjang, Klang.
"In Sabak Bernam, there are 71 victims from 15 families in Dewan Serbaguna Sungai Air Tawar," he said when contacted by Bernama.
Heavy rain early today caused flash floods at PPRT Sungai Tengar, Sabak Bernam; Selangor State Development Corporation housing area, the state rest house at Pasir Penambang, Kuala Selangor and Kampung Sungai Nangka, Banting.
Meanwhile, Selangor Disaster Management Committee secretary, Col Ahmad Afandi Mohamad said repair work was being done to the bund at Tebuk Medeling and Sungai Air Tawar, Sabak Bernam.
In GEORGE TOWN, Penang Gerakan advised the DAP-led state government to stop playing the blame game and focus on eradicating the flood problem in the state.
Its Tanjung division vice-chairman, H'ng Khoon Leng, said State Local Government, Flood Mitigation and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow should look into resolving the issue.
In SUNGAI PETANI, flash floods due to the high tide phenomenon that occurred in Kota Kuala Muda early today affected 31 people from 13 families.
Kuala Muda Civil Defence Force (APM) officer, Second Lieutenant Azahar Ahmad said the flash floods affected residents in Kampung Kepala Jalan and Kampung Sungai Pial.
