Pahang tables 14th surplus budget for 2017

    KUANTAN: The Pahang state government today tabled the 2017 Budget with a RM1.22 million surplus, the 14th time since 1992.
    Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said from the budget of RM739.28 million for next year, a sum of RM738.06 million was allocated for operating expenditure and the remaining amount for development expenditure.
    "The state government is expected to collect a revenue of RM343.18 million from land and mining collection, RM100 million from forestry, RM5.5 million from water supply, RM105.3 million federal grant and other revenues amounting to RM185.3 million next year," he said.
    Adnan was tabling Pahang 2017 Budget at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.
    According to him, the total operating expenditure of RM738.06 million comprised RM545.32 million for departmental expenditure, new policies (RM23.14 million), one-off budget such as Felda Global Venture (FGV) loan payment, state assemblymen arrears pension payment and issuing of pension (RM169.6 million).
    He said in 2017, Pahang would continue to record a Gross Domestic Product of 5.7 per cent by taking into consideration the projected national economic growth of five to six per cent per annum.
    He said to improve the per capita income and household income as well as the people's wellbeing, the state government would be giving assistance to efforts on improving innovation and productivity under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).
    Adnan said for budget 2017, the state government would be focusing on four main strategies, to empower the housing sector, welfare, education and new economic sources to boost state government revenue.
    "The state government will ensure each citizen in the state is able to own a house. Education will also continue to be given emphasis to ensure poverty does not hinder the people from obtaining education as well as skill training.
    "Apart from that, the welfare of rural residents will not be forgotten, especially in coping with the rising costs of living with implementation of programmes to raise their living standards by related government agencies," he said.
