Wawasan Open University confer honorary degree to world famous educator

GEORGE TOWN: Educationist Professor Dr Asha Kanwar, one of the world's leading advocates for learning for development, was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Letters degree at Wawasan Open University's (WOU) seventh convocation ceremony today.\
Asha in her acceptance speech said she felt honoured that WOU is recognising women's achievement in their field of endeavour.
Appointed as president and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) headquarters in Vancouver, Canada in 2012, Asha also has the distinction of being the first woman to lead a Commonwealth intergovernmental organization.
The founder of Mercy Malaysia, Tan Sri Jemilah Mahmood, was also conferred the Honorary Doctor of Letters degree.
The awards were presented by WOU chancellor Tun Mohamed Dzaidin Abdullah.
Jemilah was not present as she had work commitments in Geneva.
