Azmin assures water supply to be restored before Dec 24

SHAH ALAM: The water supply disruption in the Klang Valley which began today due to maintenance works by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will not take up to six days.
Giving this assurance, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) said he called for a special meeting with all relevant stakeholders today to discuss the matter.
“This morning, we will have a meeting with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, as well as TNB, to get a full briefing, and of course, our directive would be to shorten the scheduled six-day water outage.
“That’s the reason why I am calling for this special meeting this morning, so that this issue can be resolved immediately, and water supply can be resumed soonest possible,” he told reporters after launching the Once a Week Public Transportation programme here today.
He later attended the meeting with Pengurusan Air Selangor and TNB.
The maintenance works at the TNB main intake substation in Bukit Badong, Hulu Selangor, which began today morning, disrupted water supply as it provides power to three main water treatment plants in Selangor and the Federal Territory.
The water disruption is set to affect 814 areas in the Klang Valley involving about 4 million consumers.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) had previously said the water disruption would take up to six days from Dec 19.
Azmin said he has taken note that the water disruption was being held during the week before Christmas, and would ensure the repair works do not affect preparations for the festive period.
He would consult TNB on the maximum time required for the remedial works and that as soon as the repairs were done, would push for water supply to be restored.
“We need to understand TNB needs to do its maintenance, but we do not want it to affect domestic consumers and the industries in Selangor. I don’t foresee the water disruption taking up to six days, as reported. We will shorten as much as possible,” he said.
