KUALA LUMPUR: The government remains committed to amend 18 laws in relation to the implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) commitment, the Dewan Negara was told today.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the amendments will ensure the nation's laws is updated based on the TPPA's negotiations.
He said the move had been discussed and agreed in last Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, which included among others laws pertaining to child labour.
Mustapa added that even if the TPPA did not proceed, Malaysia will continue its effort to negotiate other trade agreements with countries such as Canada and Mexico.
He was responding to Senator Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah's query on the country's strategy regarding the TPPA agreement following a statement from US President-elect Donald Trump who reportedly said that he intends to withdraw from the agreement.
