LANGKAWI: The Langkawi Tourism Association (LTA) today lodged a police report over the delay of a road project at Cenang Beach, which has caused prolonged inconvenience at one of the island's top attractions.

Its chairman, Zainudin Kadir said the RM45 million project was supposed to be completed in June this year, as such, he wants the authorities to speed up the works or terminate the contractor's contract for failing to do the job.

"I learnt that the contractor, after failing to complete the job on time, had requested for an extension of three months until September but still failed.

"And then the contractor was given until Dec 31, this year and at the current progress, I doubt they can finish it on time," he told reporters after lodging the report at the Kuah police station.

He said the road project delay had drawn a lot of negative remarks from tourists, and the association feared that it would adversely affect Langkawi's target of drawing 4.5 million tourists to the resort island next year. — Bernama
