Othman Hashim retires as Sec-Gen of Wisma Putra after three decades of service

PUTRAJAYA: The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tan Sri Othman Hashim (pix) officially retired from his post today after serving the ministry for more than three decades.
In a statement, Wisma Putra said Othman had been appointed to the highest executive post in the ministry on Sept 1 2013.
"He successfully led the Ministry during Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2015 and Malaysia’s non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council from 2015 to 2016, among others," it said.
After three years and four months at the helm as the Secretary-General, Othman clocked out at 4.30pm on his final day at the Ministry here today. His last day saw a send-off by officers and staff at the lobby of the Ministry.
Othman began his illustrious career as a Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in 1979 upon graduation from the University of Malaya.
During the early part of his diplomatic career, he served in different countries including Romania, Switzerland and the People’s Republic of China.
Othman’s first ambassadorial post was as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Czech Republic from 2002 to 2005 before returning to Putrajaya to serve as the Deputy Secretary-General for Management Services and subsequently as Deputy Secretary-General for Bilateral Affairs.
Othman then served as the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland from 2009 to 2012 before being posted to Washington D.C. as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the United States of America in 2012. — Bernama
