GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained a 22-year-old technician to assist investigations after a video of a motorcyclist kicking a car, hurling profanities and threatening the driver went viral.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the suspect was detained at his home on Monday evening.

He said police have also seized a white motorcycle helmet and a motorcycle as part of investigations.

“We will obtain a remand order for further investigations,” he said in a brief media statement.

Investigations are being carried out for committing mischief and for criminal intimidation under the Penal Code.

During the 11.30am incident on Sunday, a motorcyclist broke the side mirror of a car with his helmet after both were almost involved in an accident.

The driver of the car refused to get out of the car and tried to get to the police station at Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling but the suspect chased and continued to hit the car with his helmet.

The public tried to calm the suspect down at the Jalan Magazine traffic lights when the car was stopped.

In a separate incident, police arrested a 33-year-old man and seized RM8,000 worth of Eramin 5 pills during an operation on Monday evening.

Mior said police swooped on a car at Jalan Irving after a tip-off during the 7.30pm raid.

He said the team found 400 pills packed in 40 aluminium foil pouches with each filled with 10 pills during a search of the vehicle.
He said the contraband was found in a black plastic bag hanging at the gear lever in the centre of the car.

“A technician was also detained and he has been remanded until Jan 15 to assist in investigations,” he said.
