PETALING JAYA: The next-of-kins to the ill-fated MH370 victims expressed their dismay as Malaysia, Australia and China Tripartite Joint Communique announced the suspension of its underwater search.
A group called Voice 370 which comprises the victims' family members said they appealed for the communique to reconsider the decision to suspend the search as the matter could not be left unresolved.
"In our view, extending the search to the new area defined by the experts is a duty owed to the public in the interest of aviation safety.
"Commercial planes cannot just be allowed to disappear without a trace ... stopping at this stage is nothing short of irresponsible, and a lack of faith in the data, tools and recommendations from official experts assembled by the authorities themselves," Voice 370 said in a statement.
The group added they acknowledged the tremendous effort of the nations involved but the proposed tripartite meeting appears to be a mere "smokescreen", and the First Principles Review has been a wasted exercise.
The First Principles Review Report which was released on Dec 20, 2016 by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) recommended a new search area of 25,000²km north of the present one.
Meanwhile a widow of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 crew is hoping against hope that the search would be resumed by the authorities.
Jacquita Gozales said her husband, Patrick Gomez had served as the in-flight supervisor of the ill fated flight and is one of the pioneers for the past 35 years.
“It was his first and only job,” she said, adding that she still keeps his handphone number.
“All of us appreciate the effort (on the search by the three countries), and all the crew deserves better.
“The will not be a full closure for any of us until the plane is found,” she said.
She added that although the victims of the flight are coming to the terms with it, “but the world deserves a better answer.”
