Jonker walk-like projects for two locations in Pangkor

LUMUT: The state government will introduce a la Jonker Walk features at Sungai Pinang Kechil and Pangkor town as added tourist attractions on the resort island.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the state government through the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) had identified the locations in the two areas which required upgrading soon to realise the projects.
"We will be upgrading the existing buildings but maintaining the natural surroundings to attract more tourists to the island. At the same time, we will be introducing a fishing village area, a gallery and other attractions, besides improving cleanliness at the beach area," he told reporters after the handing-out of the Pangkor assemblyman's Chinese New Year contributions to the recipients at Sungai Pinang Arena, Pangkor Island, here.
Zambry said the projects were among efforts undertaken to diversify tourism products in Perak, particularly in Pangkor, in increasing domestic and foreign tourist arrivals in the state.
He said the state government was also discussing on increasing the number of hotels in Pangkor and improving the existing accommodation facilities in order to provide the best for tourists.
"Besides that, the state government is trying to revive Lumut town to bring back the tourists. Lumut is not so attractive any more after the opening of the Marina jetty which shortens the distance to Pangkor.
"The MPM has also been instructed to take certain initiatives in reviving Lumut town while the state government has approved an allocation to further beautify this seafront town," he said. – Bernama
