KOTA BARU: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) expects its Intercity train service on the east coast route, which was disrupted since yesterday, to be restored on Jan 27.
A statement issued by its Corporate Communication Unit stated that the service was disrupted due to continuous heavy rain which affected the structure of the railway tracks, making the stretch at Km392.5 between Bukit Abu-Dabong, Kuala Krai, not passable.
"Therefore, all train services between Dabong-Kuala Krai-Dabong is suspended since yesterday.
"All shuttle train service will operate between Kuala Lipis-Dabong and Kuala Krai-Tumpat only," it said, adding that work to repair the railway tracks was in progress.
Following the incident, the Ekspres Timuran 26 service (JB Sentral-Tumpat) is only available from JB Sentral Station to Gua Musang station and passengers will continue their journey from Gua Musang station to Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Wakaf Baru and Tumpat by bus provided by KTMB, while passengers to Dabong station will use the local train.
For the Ekspres Timuran 27 service (Tumpat-JB Sentral), passengers will board the train from Tumpat station and the transit stations (Wakaf Baru, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah) to Kuala Krai station.
"From Kuala Krai station, passengers will travel by bus to Gua Musang station where they will continue their journey to JB Sentral station by train," it said.
It said more than two hours delay in the train service is expected and passengers could request for a refund of their tickets or change the date of their travel. — Bernama
