JOHOR BARU: The state government is planning to set up a security committee which comprise community leaders from Chinese communities to act as a platform to ease the burden of the government to combat criminal activities in Johor Baru.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said this when attending a Chinese New Year (CNY) gathering organised by Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association on the first day of CNY, Saturday.

"To curb criminal activities is the common responsibility of all rakyat in Johor," said Mohamed Khaled.
“I will discuss the security problems with the state police chief regarding the forming of a state security committee, and would like to invite leaders of NGOs to join the committee.”
"We work as a team. Everyone has a role to play in Johor because I know everyone here loves Johor and embrace the 'Johor Muafakat' spirit," he added.
Mohamed Khaled also announced a RM300,000 allocation for the Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association to carry out community activities.
"This is the rakyat’s money, I hope every sen you spent will bring benefits to the Chinese community here."
He also praised the association for being the first NGO to support the High Speed Rail (HSR) project.
"The HSR project will enhance the connectivity between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and competitiveness in trade of the two countries."
