Book Review - The Boy is Back

MEG CABOT is best known as the author of The Princess Diaries series of books. The Boy is Back is the fourth in her Boy series that are all essentially standalone chick lit novels.
In this book, golf pro Reed Stewart reluctantly returns to his hometown Bloomville, when he finds out that his father, a prominent judge, together with his mother, have been arrested for trying to pay for their expensive dinner with a stamp.
The whole story is told through conversations via various social media, a style she uses for the entire Boy series of books.
It makes for tedious reading initially, but you eventually get the hang of it.
There is also a romantic interest for Reed in the form of his high-school sweetheart, Becky Flowers, with some unresolved issues thrown in for good measure.
Reed is forced to seek Becky’s help to get his parents out of the hole they have dug themselves into.
Some parts are funny, like Reed’s conversations with exasperated brother Marshall, but like I said earlier, the format in which the story is delivered takes some getting used to.
