Leaders-people's bond imperative for sustainable harmony: Malacca CM

MALACCA: It is imperative for leaders and the people in the country to strive towards further cementing the existing bond of unity between them for the sake of sustainable harmony.
Having said this, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron (pix) added that people of all races must consolidate and work with the government to overcome the challenges, pressures and problems faced by the country.
"When there is racial unity, the government can plan and implement various developments smoothly and improve the living standard of the people.
"This consolidation is pertinent to also ensure expedition of the country's development towards National Transformation 2050 (NT50) aimed to prosper the people," he said.
He said this at the state-organised Chinese New Year open house at Stadium Hang Jebat, Krubong here last night. Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob was also present.
Idris also reminded the people not to be readily influenced by allegations hurled against the government in light of the country's current political and economical vulnerability.
Meanwhile, he described celebrations such as Chinese New Year as a platform for the people to refresh the goodwill among them.
Such harmony, he said, depicted Malaysia's ability to sustain as a plural society more successfully than many other countries.
More than 20,000 people including local and foreign visitors to Malacca were at the event. — Bernama
