Former Miss Malaysia winners show some love

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven former Miss Malaysia Tourism winners took time off from their schedule today to lend a helping hand at the Rumah Charis welfare home, as part of their Loving Sunday charity programme.
The initiative, which kicked off last year, is a social responsibility campaign under the Miss Malaysia Charity, organised by D’Touch International, that takes place every last Sunday of the month.
Today’s event saw the participants, along with D’Touch International founder and president Tan Sri Danny Ooi, donating clothes and other essential goods, as well as entertaining the children there with a magic show and having lunch together with them.
“We want to encourage Miss Malaysia pageant winners to do more charity work. And we hope with their support, this campaign will be carried on for a long time,” Danny Ooi told theSun today.
Danny Ooi, who is also the president of the Council of Federal Datuks Malaysia, also donated RM5,000 to the home on behalf of the council.
Rumah Charis operation manager Suzanne Lee said the children and the staff there were especially delighted and touched to have celebrities visiting them today.
“Very seldom do we get celebrities like these coming over here. We are happy with their visit,” she said, adding that the home currently houses 45 children, five senior citizens, and eight staff.
Thalia Thin, 19, who was crowned the Miss Tourism Queen of the year Malaysia 2016, said she felt satisfied with the visit as she could give back to society.
“I’m more privileged than some of them in certain sense, so why not give back to them,” the Taylor’s American Degree Transfer Programme student said.
