Members of Gang 360 Devan charged under Sosma (Updated)

KAJANG: Twenty-nine men including a Datuk believed to be members of Gang 360 Devan, were charged at the sessions court here under the Security Offences and Special Measures Act (Sosma) for alleged involvement in organised crime activities.
All the accused were said to have been members of the gang, which was active in organised crime at MV Empayar Sdn Bhd, No 1B, Jalan Perniagaan Masria 1, Pusat Perniagaan Masria, Batu 9 Cheras, here between January and February 2016.
They were charged under Section 130V1 of the Penal Code for offences related to organised crime, which carries a maximum 20 years jail term if convicted.
They acknowledged the charge read out to them in Tamil before sessions judge Noridah Adam, yesterday.
No plea was recorded from M. Mohan, 34, P. Subramaniam, 54, S. Ravindran, 37, P. Rajendran, 48, E. Shamuganathan, 45, A. Karpanah, 57, J.J Vignasevaran, 42, R. Premraj, 37, V. Arivalagan, 42, R. Suresh Kumar, 39, M. Thananbalan, 41, Datuk M. Kalai Arasu, 45, M. Kalimuthu, 28, M. Saravanan, 37, R.Sundran, 61, A. Erathai Pragash, 49, T. Ravendaran, 30, M. Danes, 25, S. Sivaneswaran, 25, V. Vigny Alfred Raj, 29, R. Subramaniam, 37, R. Kannan, 33, M. Saravanan, 37, M. Jayakumar, 36, P. Karthik, 31, I. Ravindran, 30, S. Krishna, 33, Mohd Sarif Abdul Karim, 31 and R. Yogendran, 30.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam and Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor prosecuted the case while 25 of the accused were represented by several counsels.
The remaining five were unrepresented.
Meanwhile, the 30th suspect, S. Raman, 61, is expected to be charged for the same offence at the Shah Alam Hospital, today (Tuesday), as he is currently warded there due to health complications.
During mitigation, defence counsel Harvinder Singh told the court his clients had claimed that they were assaulted by the police during their remand period.
Noridah then set April 18 for mention. 
The case will be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court and tried under Sosma.
Earlier, the vicinity of the court complex was abuzz as family members and relatives of the accused gathered to catch a glimpse of them.
However, heavy police presence and security prevented most from entering the either packed courtroom located on the ninth floor of the building or the vicinity of the court complex.
It is learnt that only one family member of each suspect were allowed into the courtroom.
