KUALA LUMPUR: A man was fined RM1,000 in default two months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here today after he pleaded guilty to causing grievous hurt to his ex-wife, last month.
Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som handed down the sentence on K. Ganesan, 36, for voluntarily causing injury to P. Sundraswary, 37, at 7.40 am near Wisma Standard Chartered TPM, Seremban-Kuala Lumpur Expressway, Cheras, on Feb 16.
According to the facts of the case, the accused had slapped the victim's left cheek due to a misunderstanding between them.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.
Earlier, the accused who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency on the grounds that he had to support his ailing parents, but deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged for a deterrent sentence. — Bernama
