KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 95 Malaysians have been identified for their involvement with the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq between 2013 to March this year.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said eight of them had since returned to the country and were arrested by the police.
Meanwhile, another 30 individuals had already died, while the rest are still in the turbulent regions, said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister.
He said this in a parliamentary written reply to a question posed by Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) dated April 3.
Lim had asked the Home Ministry on the total number of Malaysians involved in terrorism activities abroad and on why their citizenship had not been revoked.
Ahmad Zahid said a person's citizenship status was subjected to Articles 24, 25 and 26 of the Federal Constitution, where the government has authority to revoke citizenship.
He said a person's Malaysian citizenship could be revoked if they had acquired citizenship from other countries whether through registration, naturalisation or other means.
