Police deny news report alleging no action will be taken against dog abuser

SERDANG: Police have denied a report that action will not be taken against a man seen in a viral video cruelly attacking a dog after it broke free of its leash and startled him in Taman Melody, Bandar Kinrara here.
Serdang district police chief ACP Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said investigations are ongoing and police have also interviewed the suspect.
"We are doing our part here and we interviewed the man, a Singaporean today night. We are also working with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) on the case,"he said when contacted.
A local news portal had reported on Thursday that there would be no action taken against the man.
Megat Mohd also said that to date police have received five police reports in relation to the incident.
"The five police reports were lodged by the suspect, a security guard who was at the scene, a social media user, a witness and the Selangor Veterinary Department.
Megat Mohd stressed that the case would be investigated thoroughly.
"We are talking with the DVS and all other authorities before we decide on our next course of action," he added.
He added the investigation will also be forwarded to the Selangor Veterinary Department under the Animal Act 1953.
"If there are criminal elements involved in the incident, then police would probe the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and under Section 506 of the same code for criminal intimidation," he said.
The April 2 viral video footage shows the suspect, said to be a Singaporean falling from his bicycle after being startled by a dog tied up at the guardhouse to the housing estate.
The man, who had another pet dog in the basket of his bicycle, angrily picks up the dog by its neck. The guard tries to stop him from hurting the dog but is verbally abused.
The man repeatedly punches the dog and even uses a crash helmet to hit the dog, as the guard watches on helplessly. The smaller pet dog can be seen barking throughout the incident. After torturing the animal, he dumps the dog behind the guardhouse.
