300 visitors join turtle nest adoption programme

SANDAKAN: The target of 300 visitors joining the Turtle Nest Adoption Programme at the Pulau Penyu National Park near here, has been achieved.
Lisa Saw of England was the 300th visitor on Aug 21.
Sabah Parks in its latest Facebook posting today stated that the programme which began on June 13 last year was an initiative by its Research and Education Division.
Through the programme, visitors at Taman Pulau Penyu can participate by donating RM100 per nest at the turtle hatchery centre in the park.
The visitor's name will be exhibited on the nest's label, besides receiving a certificate of appreciation and an exclusive t-shirt.
The 1,740ha Pulau Penyu Park consists of three islands, namely Selingan, Gulisaan and Bakungan Kechil, with 18.2ha of land and 1,721.8ha of sea. — Bernama
