38 Vietnamese fishermen detained in waters off Miri

MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained 38 Vietnamese fishermen and seized six tonnes of marine catch, valued at RM60,000, in waters off Miri yesterday.
Miri Maritime director Maritime Captain Mohamad Fauzi Othman said in the operation, conducted with the Customs Department,the agency detained two boats, registered as One United 35 and One United 32, respectively, for allegedly conducting illegal fishing activities.
"Boat One United 35, with 19 crew, was detained at 3.20pm, while One United 32, also with 19 crew, was detained at 3.53pm," he said in a statement here today.
He said 10 of the 38 crew, aged between 14 and 38, did not have any personal documents on them. — Bernama
