Angler dies after hit by lightning in Balik Pulau

BALIK PULAU: A 47-year-old angler died after he was struck by lightning while on a fishing trip during a thunderstorm here last night.
The downpour took everyone by surprise as the northern region hit by a heat wave during the past six weeks.
Mohd Amin Osman, a factory worker, was crouching by a hut next to the community hall in the Gertak Sanggul coastline to shelter from the rain when a bolt of lightning hit the area, throwing him to the ground.
Fellow anglers who were also taking refuge at the hut saw him been thrown several metres due to the impact of the bolt.
Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he died at the scene.
Southwest district police head Asst Comm A. Anbalagan confirmed the incident and said the cause of death was due to a lightning strike after a post-mortem was conducted.
