KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) will launch a national flower-themed stamp series to commemorate the 50th Asean anniversary on Aug 8.
Its group chief executive Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said the series would use only 60 sen stamps.
"Stamp collectors and the public are encouraged to purchase the limited 60-sen collection edition as only 125, 000 pieces are issued," he said, adding that the collection also featured species of local butterflies and bees together with the national flower.
Asean member countries also used their respective national flower in their Asean commemorative stamps.
Meanwhile, Head of Pos Malaysia Stamp and Philately Unit Diyana Lean Abdullah said the Hibiscus series which is available in Pos Malaysia branches nationwide also features Asean Post's new logo.
"This is the first time the stamp series will display Asean's Post's new logo. The logo that was won by the Vietnam Post was chosen by a majority of Asean Post countries," she said during a preview of the stamp series at the Pos Malaysia headquarters today.
According to Diyana, the mini strip stamps featuring the hibiscus cover are available at RM3 a piece, and philately products such as the first day covers are sold at 55 sen, maximum cards at RM1.05 and stamp folders at RM6.35 per piece while the complete series is available at RM29.25.
She also urged stamp collectors to open a Standing Order Deposit Account (SODA) to facilitate the purchase of the latest stamp series.
Members of the public who are interested in being a part of the SODA community can register at any post office nationwide or via online at www.posonline.com.my, or contact 03- 22672267 for further enquiries. — Bernama
