SHAH ALAM: An auxiliary policeman, the mastermind behind the kidnapping of a transport company manager, was among 29 suspects nabbed by police.
The raids were conducted in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Kuala Lumpur over the last four weeks.
Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said on Dec 12 last year, a 35-year-old transport company manager was abducted in Bandar Baru, Sungai Buloh.
"The victim was kidnapped by a group of assailants in a car after finishing his duties. However, the victim was released on Jan 3 upon settling an RM500,000 kidnap ransom on the same day," he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters here today.
Mazlan said the victim was released at Bemban in Malacca.
"Following his release, we did a follow-up operation where we caught three men on the same day where the victim was released.
"The series of arrests continued till the end of Jan, we end up arresting 25 men and four women in total to facilitate the investigation," he added.
Those arrested, includes two Bangladeshis.
Mazlan said the 42-year-old auxiliary policeman attached to an agency in Putrajaya was the mastermind behind the abduction.
"We found that the group members knew each other and they can be described as hardcore criminals as the group also involved in six money changer robbery cases reported in Klang Valley before last year.
"The mastermind meanwhile had 20-years working experience as an auxiliary policeman," said Mazlan.
Police also seized RM124,400 in cash and frozen two bank accounts with RM14,000 each.
Mazlan said police also recovered a fake revolver and live ammunition.
Further investigations revealed the mastermind and his gang members were involved in a murder and another kidnapping case in 2017.
"Due to the severity of their crimes, we are looking into conducting investigations from the angle of organised criminal activities under the Security Offences and Special Measures Act 1012," he said.
A total of 11 suspects will be brought to the Shah Alam Court to be charged with kidnapping tomorrow.
