PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians who move abroad can contribute to the nation, specifically as agents of technological networks and new businesses for the country, says Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said the migration of professionals abroad must be seen from a different angle and with confidence that they still loved Malaysia. The government would always communicate and co-operate with them to give the best to the country.
“They migrate due to a myriad of reasons such as getting different opportunities, getting married and bringing up a family and studying overseas. This does not mean that they cannot contribute to Malaysia.
“So, we must continue to build and strengthen the network with the diaspora of Malaysians abroad for the common good,” he said in a statement on the National Transformation (TN50) Dialogue session at University College London, United Kingdom on Sunday.

According to the statement, Khairy, who is on a working visit to the United Kingdom, held a dialogue with about 350 Malaysian students in England and collected 38 of their aspirations towards 2050.
On Saturday, he held a similar dialogue with about 200 Malaysian students at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and collected 45 aspirations from the students there.
Khairy said he was happy with the quality of the aspirations he received from the students, who clearly saw what they wanted in the building of a better nation-state.
“This visit is very worthwhile because the quality of their aspirations is very good and apt such as wanting a sustainable development, protection of the environment and wanting Malaysia to emerge as a developed nation, besides prioritising courtesy and ethics among the people.
“They also prioritise the latest education syallabus because 60% of jobs in the future do not exist now. So, they want students in schools to be complemented with the latest and dynamic education such as programming,” he added.
Since the TN50 Dialogue series was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in January, the Youth and Sports Ministry has collected more than 80,000 aspirations from the people, which are to be documented. — Bernama
