KLANG: Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the Sungai Kandis state by-election, today expressed the hope that the by-election can be the beginning of political cooperation between Umno and PAS.
He said he personally hoped that Umno and PAS could merge or be component parties in a coalition.
Lokman Noor spoke to reporters after a walkabout in the constituency.
He was commenting on a statement by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman that the by-election was being seen as a testing ground for possible political cooperation between Umno and PAS.
The by-election is a three-cornered contest among Mohd Zawawi, who is from PKR; Lokman Noor of Umno and K. Murthy, an independent candidate. Polling is on Aug 4.
The by-election has been necessitated by the death of the assemblyman, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei of PKR, on July 2. — Bernama
