Brother of former federal minister under five-day remand

KOTA KINABALU: The younger brother of a former federal minister is being remanded for five days from today to help in investigations over alleged misappropriation of RM180 million meant for rural projects in the state.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie issued the remand order after allowing an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to detain the man until Oct 15 to help in investigations under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009.
The man, who was detained after giving a statement at the Sabah MACC office yesterday, is among seven individuals detained to date to help in investigations over alleged misappropriation of funds for rural projects amounting to RM180 million, said to be part of the estimated RM1.5 billion misappropriated in a ministry.
The RM1.5 billion was part of the federal government's allocation to a ministry totalling RM7.5 billion to implement rural projects in Sabah from 2009 to 2015. — Bernama
