GEORGE TOWN: The state government today urged Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar to build more People's Housing Project (PPR) units at a piece of identified land in Jelutong.
State Housing committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo (pix) said more of these units should be constructed at the 14.674ha federal land as Penang currently only has 999 PPR units out of the 100,000 units nationwide.
He said a letter has already been sent to Noh, by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, dated Apr 20 urging him to develop PPR units at the parcel of land.
Jagdeep hoped Noh will respond positively to state's request in a bid to assist the poor and ensure enough homes were built for Penang folk.
