Businessman files suit against Najib, Rosmah and two others

KUALA LUMPUR: Businessman J. R. Deepak Jaikishan has filed a suit seeking RM600 million compensation from former prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, his wife and two others, alleging tort of conspiracy had caused him to suffer losses.
Deepak Jaikishan, 46, filed the suit last Friday at the Civil High Court here through Messrs Haniff Khatri naming Najib, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Boustead Holdings Berhad and Bakti Wira Development Sdn Bhd as the first to fourth defendants.
In his statement of claim, the plaintiff claimed he was formerly a director and majority shareholder of Astacanggih Sdn Bhd and minority shareholder of Awan Megah Sdn Bhd while Bakti Wira Development was a subsidiary of Boustead Holdings.
He claimed he suffered various losses due to conspiracy and exercise of undue influence by all the defendants against him.
The plaintiff claimed that through a privatisation agreement on June 8, 2005, Awan Megah entered into an agreement with the government and Tanah dan Harta Sdn Bhd to build the National Centre for Defence Studies (Puspahanas).
The plaintiff claimed that the construction would be carried out at two Selangor state-owned land in Kapar and Bukit Raja in Klang and that Awan Megah had offered Astacanggih to buy the land at a price of RM118,573,500 through an acquisition agreement signed by both parties on May 16, 2007.
He claimed that in return, Astacanggih had to pay a RM13 million deposit to Awan Megah.
He claimed Awan Megah through its director and largest shareholder Datuk Raja Ropiaah Raja Abdullah, needed to enter a shareholder agreement between Astacanggih shareholders namely the plaintiff, Datuk Ikhwan Salim Sujak and Mohd Shukri Abdullah, whereby 20% shares or RM4 million would be awarded to Raja Ropiaah in Astacanggih.
The plaintiff claimed that during that time, Raja Ropiaah was Selangor Wanita Umno chief and a good friend and/or proxy and crony of Najib and Rosmah.
Deepak claimed that Raja Ropiaah had failed to comply with the terms of the acquisition agreement and did not provide the land grant and as a result the land could not be transferred to Astacanggih until today.
Deepak claimed that due to the conspiracies, he suffered losses close to RM510 million and as such he was seeking RM600 million in general damages, RM50 million in exemplary damages, RM26 million in aggravated damages, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court. — Bernama
