Businesswoman remanded for allegedly attempting to bribe policeman

KOTA KINABALU: A businesswoman was remanded for four days starting from today to assist an investigation by the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into the case of an alleged attempt to bribe a traffic police officer.
In a 4am incident yesterday, the suspect, a 27-year-old Sarawakian, was detained in an operation dubbed 'Ops Mabuk' at Jalan Coastal, Kota Kinabalu, for driving under the influence of alcohol and had allegedly attempted to offer a bribe of RM1,200 to a police officer on duty at the roadblock.
The suspect was then picked up from her residence in Bundusan, Penampang at 11.30 am yesterday.
Magistrate Afiq Agoes issued the remand order today following an application made by MACC prosecutor Mohd Faliq Basiruddin at the Magistrate's Court.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(B) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
