GEORGE TOWN: A car yesterday crashed into a 24-hour nasi kandar restaurant on Lebuh Chulia, causing many people to run helter-skelter to save themselves.
In the 11pm incident, a black Perodua Alza rammed into the eatery outlet, prompting the people to get away from their tables.
The vehicle was partially damaged but the driver was believed to have escaped unhurt after the unfortunate mishap.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported as of now while the place has been cordoned off by the police for further investigations.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said initial investigations revealed that the car was driven by a 26-year-old youth heading to Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling from Pengkalan Weld who lost control after trying to avoid a pedestrian crossing road.
He said the car then rammed onto a motorcycle parked at roadside near the outlet before ploughing into the premises.
"Checks show driver is not drunk," he said, adding the case classified for reckless driving under Road Transport Act 1987.
