IPOH: The cartoon that depicted Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang as a monkey had tarnished the image of Islam in the eyes of the world, said Perak Pas Youth head, Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin (pix).
He said, Abdul Hadi is not only leader of a political party but also the deputy head of the World Ulama Association.
"Abdul Hadi's position and influence is not restricted to Malaysia but also internationally," he told reporters at the sidelines of the state assembly sitting here today.
"The cartoon published openly in the media had touched the sensitivity and harmony of not only the Muslims but also the non Muslims," he added.
According to him, the newspaper company which began their operations in Singapore 93 years ago had demonstrated immaturity and a lack of professionalism in their publication which angered the Muslims.
"If any quarters do not agree with the stand of PAS, it is not an excuse to insult the Muslims in the open.
"The turban was won by Prophet Muhammad and placing it on a monkey in the cartoon is provocative," he added.
The wing had launched reports in 15 police stations in the state.
