KUALA LUMPUR: National shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei lodged a police report today over a viral sex video alleging his involvement with an unidentified woman.
Federal police commercial crimes investigations department (CCID) director Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh who confirmed receiving Lee's report said today that the case is being investigated for criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and improper use of a multimedia network under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
He said police have recorded Lee's statement and he has denied the man in the video was him.
On Tuesday, following the video going viral in the social media, Lee came forward to dismiss allegations of him being the man engaged in sexual activity in the footage.
He said the man in the video did not even resemble him and it is possible that the video was purposely spread by irresponsible parties to damage his reputation.
He said such an attempt was even more evident as the premiere of his biopic "Lee Chong Wei: Rise of the Legend" is just next month.
Lee said he had received many queries from people who had asked him to confirm whether he was the man caught on camera in the 11-minute video.
