College student charged with murder for dumping newborn baby girl's body

PETRA JAYA: A private college student who was arrested for allegedly dumping her newborn baby girl in a rubbish disposal area was charged with murder at the magistrate's court here today.
Betty Kuleh, 24, looked weak when she was produced before magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman.
She was accused of committing the offence at a rented unit at the Sama Jaya Apartment in Muara Tabuan here, at about 6am on April 11.
Betty, who is from Belaga, near Kapit, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
No plea was recorded from the accused.
Zulhairil fixed May 19 for mention, pending a chemist report over the case and ordered the accused to be further remanded, since she was charged with committing an offence which is non-bailable.
Inspector Hisyam Junaidi prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.
It was reported that a female cleaner found the newborn's body stuffed inside a package slightly larger than a shoe box at the rubbish disposal area of the apartment, at about 10am last week.
The suspect, who is a third year diploma student of a nearby college, was arrested about two hours after the shocking discovery.
