Court sentences Adam Rosly to 6 months in jail, RM30,000 fine

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court today sentenced Ampang PKR Youth chief Adam Rosly to six months' imprisonment and a RM30,000 fine for giving false statements to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in a graft probe last year.
He was charged with committing the offences at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya between 9am and 12.15pm on Feb 10, 2017, and between 9am and 2pm on Feb 22 in the same year.
He was accused of giving recorded false statements to two MACC investigating officers under Section 32 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
The 31-year-old was arrested by MACC for investigation into his income,luxury car and bungalow worth RM1.2 million in Kampung Melayu Ampang, which was bought by cash, a RM200,000 loan from his mother-in-law and late grandmother, as well as a RM500,000 loan allegedly from a loan shark.
This information became public knowledge after Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos claimed that Adam owned all this despite having held a post in PKR for only one term.
Adam Rosly was also accused of using a forged document comprising two loan agreements from two individuals and two cash vouchers from his company, Gegas Mentari Holding Sdn Bhd, with the intention to mislead the officers under Section 89 of the MACC Act.
MACC had also seized Adam's RM1.2 million castle-styled bungalow and five luxury cars.
His bank account, and that of his wife, which contained over RM212,000, were also frozen. — Bernama
