TEMERLOH: After failing with PAS, DAP is now trying to ride on PKR to woo support from Malays in the 14th General Election (GE14), said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow said in their eagerness the bring down the government, DAP was "willing to sell its dignity" by using the PKR logo in GE14, even though it is the most senior party in the opposition alliance.
"Even though DAP commanded 85% Chinese support before this, they have no principles when it comes to their struggle, willing to sacrifice their own logo just because they think they have the Chinese voters in their pockets.
"The last time, they promised a welfare state (if they came into power), but they are cheats ... now they form another (opposition) coalition," he told reporters after a party function here.
Also present were Pahang Umno deputy chairman and Temerloh BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin, Pahang MCA chairman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun and Temerloh MCA chairman Datuk Wong Tat Chee.
The old opposition coalition named Pakatan Rakyat was made up of DAP, PKR and PAS, but PAS has since parted ways, while PAS splinter Parti Amanah Negara and newly formed Pari Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, headed by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, have joined the former two to form a new opposition pact called Pakatan Harapan.
In Gopeng, Wanita MCA president Datuk Heng Seai Kie said the party had activated its women's wing election machinery in all its 191 divisions to help BN candidates win their respective seats.
She said they would adopt the Jalinan Rakyat Plus (JR Plus) approach and that the "women's touch" made a lot of difference in wooing voters.
She was speaking at a press conference on the Perak Women's Career Carnival in conjunction Women's Empowerment Year which will be held at Dewan Fook Tat Chee here. — Bernama
