DAP sets Nov 12 for party re-election

KUALA LUMPUR: The DAP has set Nov 12 for the party to conduct its Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election.
The date was announced by party national secretary-general Lim Guan Eng during a press conference at the party's headquarters today.
He said the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had agreed to the date, and the re-election would take place at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam.
"As for the delegates name list, we will be using the same delegates name list that we have used during the party election in 2012 which is 2,576.
"However, the list will exclude the names of those who have passed away, resigned from the party voluntarily and declared bankrupt," Lim said during the press conference.
Lim then mentioned that the party agreed with all the terms and responsibilities laid out for audit firm Grant Thornton by RoS in a letter dated Sept 21 to the party.
"Some of the responsibilities for Grant Thornton include updating the delegates list, ensuring that there are no observers inside the balloting hall or any area where the re-election is taking place and Grant Thornton can appoint any party representative (non-delegates or candidates) who are familiar with the party constitution to give a briefing before the re-election proceeds," Lim said.
Meanwhile, DAP's national organising secretary Anthony Loke criticised several errors in the RoS letter to DAP.
"There are a few major errors in the letter by RoS where one of it would be the discussion date RoS have stated in the letter which is Aug 21, 2018.
"How is it possible for us to have a discussion with them in 2018 when we are still in 2017 itself," Loke said.
Loke also highlighted that the total number of delegates mentioned by RoS (2,756) is incorrect as the correct figure as per the delegates list in 2012 is 2,576, which the DAP submitted to the registrar a few months earlier.
