Disabled students eager to begin studies at USM

GEORGE TOWN : Fifty-two disabled students have something to cheer about after years of hardwork helped them enrol for the new 2017/2018 term at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today.
The new batch were among the 3,931 new students taking their pledge in Dewan Tunku Syed Putra (DTSP).
One of the disabled students was A. Mahavithia, 22, who felt proud of being granted a place in USM.
The Ipoh-lass who was blinded after high fever since the age of 11 related that she managed to secure her place in the Bachelor of Arts, English Language and Literature Studies.
"I want to pursue my Masters in Literature as well after completing my degree," said Mahavithia who aspires to become a teacher.
Muhd Aslam Abdul Aziz, 21, who suffered ligament rupture four years ago, was on cloud nine upon entering the Literature course as well.
He recalled he had undergone a total of seven surgeries over the years and medical practitioners assured him that he could be well soon.
An international student from Japan, Aoha Yamamoto, 21, when met, said she decided to study Biology in USM due to the quality of its university.
She added geographical and logistics aspect was taken into consideration as Malaysia is closer to Japan.
University's vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Asma Ismail, meanwhile, congratulated the students and encouraged them to be the author of their own stories.
"I believe USM will be a great place for students to explore, to learn and to grow," she said during her speech at the student pledge-taking ceremony.
